Mob Blog: The Green Owl

The Green Owl,November 22, 2011

[dcs_p]Green Owl today for breakfast. It’s a slow week on account of Thanksgiving, and I’m sitting with my two sons and Victor. We’re dipping into our bacon and eggs and minding our own business when some goofy broad at the next table takes offense to my son, Tony, talking on his cell-phone. We’re in a diner, for God sakes. Granted, it’s right on Atlantic in Delray Beach, and the place has got character, but it’s not five-star dining.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Tony’s got issues with his wife. They’re having some kind of argument–she keeps calling and he keeps hanging up. The woman at the next table leans over and taps Tony on the shoulder and says, “Young man, you are so annoying.” Tony’s under stress and tells her to get a life, and now she’s bristling, prodding her husband, telling him, “Are you going to let this young man speak to me like this?”  The guy looks at me and Victor. We’re not saying anything, but he’s not as dumb as he looks, and I hear him tell her to be quiet.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]The Green Owl was written in the voice of Patricia Bellomo’s main character, mobster Louie Morelli.
