Angie’s Valentine Surprise, February 11, 2011

I have a remarkably efficient secretary. This morning I’m at my desk when Emily comes into my office. She gives me a little smile and says, “Mr. Morelli, do I need to remind you that Monday is Valentine’s Day?”

She doesn’t need to remind me. Last night I took my girl to Smith and Wollensky in South Beach, and she made sure I knew the big day was coming. But Emily isn’t thinking about my girlfriend. She’s thinking of my wife, Angie, and making sure I don’t forget her.

No doubt about it. Sometimes I am a lousy husband. But this year I’m making it up to Angie with a surprise visit to the Big Apple. I told her about it this morning, and she’s thrilled. She was booking front-row seats for the Jersey Boys when I left the house. She’s planning on wearing her mink coat and the yellow-diamond necklace I had made for her when I was dabbling in the jewelry business.

I tell Emily I booked a suite at the Plaza Hotel in New York City to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Angie, and she lights up, nodding her approval. Emily really likes Angie, and she hates that I play, but she’s a professional and doesn’t say a word. She gives me a big smile, and I make a mental note to have Victor send her flowers. Sometimes a secretary is a lot like a wife.[singlepic id=8 w=320 h=240 float=]
