Holiday Hell, December 28, 2011

Angie’s sister and her husband have been staying with us for the better part of a week now. They plan to hang out until after the New Year, but I’m ready to send them packing. My brother-in-law is okay when sober, but these days sobriety is rare, and he’s been a nuisance. Hanging out in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea this afternoon, he got into a fistfight at Aruba’s.  I wasn’t there, but I understand he was uttering threats and dropping my name and now I’ve had enough. It’s time to go.

Diamond Dealer, December 15, 2011

[dcs_p]In the Big Apple for a little holiday splurge. Angie’s with me on this trip; in fact, it was her idea. Anyway, we had dinner at Keen’s Steakhouse last night, an old Manhattan tradition. Sort of like an old boy’s club, but not the type of club I’ve ever belonged to. It’s old money, Waspish, but the lamb chops are worth stopping in for.[/dcs_p]Anyway, I met an associate of mine from back when I was in the jewelry business. The guy was a real hustler, working every angle. He”s all burned out now, and walking with a cane. He used to work out of the diamond district. He tells me everything went south after 9-11, the Feds swooping in like vultures. I asked him how come he never got popped, and he looks a little sheepish, and then I remember hearing that he turned in some players. He made me a lot of money, and I wish him well, but I’m glad I got out when I did.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Diamond Dealer was written from the point of view of Patricia Bellomo’s main character, mobster Louie Morelli.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Bellomo’s mafia thrillers include Louie Morelli’s Daughter and Stella di Mare. Topless in Miami, December 6, 2011

[dcs_p]I’ve got the Stella in slip at the Miami Marina. Big business in South Beach today, and then it’s play time. Heading to the Bahamas for a little R&R and some blackjack. Victor’s already got his chick on board, and she’s putting on a show. Victor likes them big busted and this one’s stacked. The sun’s barely up, and she’s got her top off. We’re having breakfast on deck, and she’s too excited to sit, prancing back and forth. I see my crew keeps coming out to take a look, and now the lady on deck of the Azimut docked next to the Stella di Mare gets up with a huff and goes inside, slamming her sliding door. Victor says, “Doll, you’ve got to put your top on.”[/dcs_p]She tosses her blond hair. She’s not wearing much on the bottom, and it’s hard not to notice her absence of tan lines. “I thought I could go topless in Miami,” she pouts, and he says, “On the beach, doll. Not on Lou’s yacht–at least not while we’re in slip.”[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Topless in Miami was told from the perspective of Patricia Bellomo’s main character, mobster Louie Morelli.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]If you enjoyed this post, please check out Patricia’s books at: www.patriciabellomo.com [/dcs_p][dcs_p]Books available at Amazon, B&N, and on all e-readers.

Tree Time in Delray Beach, December 1, 2011

Family day. I’m home, in Delray Beach.  We’re having great weather, low-seventies and sun all day. We’re on the terrace, soaking up the sunshine while gazing out at the Atlantic. Victor’s grilling shrimp and scallops, tossing it with pasta con aglio e olio (pasta with garlic and oil). Light on the garlic. Angie spent a bundle having the house decorated, and we’ve got Christmas lights on the Roman columns around the pool. Everybody’s happy  because it’s the annual tree lighting festival in town tonight. Delray Beach does a great job–a 100 foot tree in Old School Square. They shut down Atlantic to traffic around four, and Santa arrives a couple of hours later. My little grandkids are jumping up and down with excitement. They haven’t figured out that I’m Santa, but Stella has because she says to me, “Daddy, you’re the best.”[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Tree Time in Delray Beach is written from the perspective of PAtricia Bellomo’s main character, mobster Louie Morelli.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Bellomo’s books are available on Amazon.com and on all e-readers.

The Green Owl,November 22, 2011

[dcs_p]Green Owl today for breakfast. It’s a slow week on account of Thanksgiving, and I’m sitting with my two sons and Victor. We’re dipping into our bacon and eggs and minding our own business when some goofy broad at the next table takes offense to my son, Tony, talking on his cell-phone. We’re in a diner, for God sakes. Granted, it’s right on Atlantic in Delray Beach, and the place has got character, but it’s not five-star dining.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Tony’s got issues with his wife. They’re having some kind of argument–she keeps calling and he keeps hanging up. The woman at the next table leans over and taps Tony on the shoulder and says, “Young man, you are so annoying.” Tony’s under stress and tells her to get a life, and now she’s bristling, prodding her husband, telling him, “Are you going to let this young man speak to me like this?”  The guy looks at me and Victor. We’re not saying anything, but he’s not as dumb as he looks, and I hear him tell her to be quiet.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]The Green Owl was written in the voice of Patricia Bellomo’s main character, mobster Louie Morelli. Golfcart Gestapo Strikes Again

Golfcart Gestapo Strikes Again, November 17, 2011

[dcs_p]The holiday season isn’t even in full swing, and most of the snowbirds are still up north, but  Delray Beach’s golfcart gestapo is cranking up the heat. A volunteer “civilian” force comprised of petty old men, retired cops, and wannabes, they’re meter maids on steroids–hot to ticket any perceived infraction. As usual–I don’t know how she does it–Angie’s in their path. Today, she takes her mother and aunt to Luna Rosa’s on A1A and Atlantic. Although they’re heavy on the garlic, Luna’s is a great little spot, and Angie likes to go there.[/dcs_p] Chauffeuring two elderly ladies with canes, Angie drops them at the door and then pulls into a handicapped on A1A, hanging the sticker on the rear-view mirror. As soon as she walks away, the gestapo pulls up and starts writing a ticket. My mother-in-law, watching from the restaurant’s patio, stomps over and starts giving the crusty old gent a piece of her mind–all of it in Italian, mind you. His reason for the citation: Angie doesn’t look handicapped. She’s not–but who is he to judge? She could have had a heart condition or some other ailment that makes walking difficult. In the end, my mother-in-law’s persuasive tongue saved the day, and the overzealous quack hopped back onto his golfcart in search of some other unsuspecting citizen to harrass.[/dcs_p][dcs_p]Golfcart Gestapo Strikes Again is a little anecdote written in the voice of Patricia Bellomo’s main character, mobster Louie Morelli.
